Mangalore, May 3: Mangalore based journalists from print and electronic media under the banner of Dakshina Kannada district working journalists union (DKWJU) on Saturday staged a demonstration demanding resignation from a minister for allegedly threatening a local reporter.
The development comes following the reports that Minister of State for Youth Services, Sports and Fisheries K. Abhayachandra Jain allegedly threatened a reporter of a regional Kannada newspaper.
The Hindu's Mangalore bureau chief Govind D. Belgaunkar, DKWJU president P B Harish Rai and others addressed the protesters in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner.
Later, a memorandum addressing chief minister Siddaramaiah was submitted by the agitating journalists to the Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim.
Meanwhile city police chief R Hithendra said that cops have launched an investigation into the claims of reporter Yashodhar Kotian after he filed a complaint with Moodbidri police.
In his complaint the reporter alleged that he was threatened by the minister when he called him to seek his reaction about a report on a power project.
