The dead man was identified as construction labourer Kashiappa (38) a native of Naragunda taluk in Badami district. His wife Mahadevi, and another colleague Swami Nayak are injured.
A multi-storey apartment complex was under construction at the site. Named Blueberry Platinum' the building was being developed by Victoria Builders.
According to sources, the workers were excavating earth for the basement near a well when the tragedy took place.
The loose soil gave way and caved in, trapping three workers near the wall that was built along the periphery of the excavated portion. All of a sudden the wall was collapsed on them.
Fire personnel rushed to the spot and managed to rescue two of the three labourers. However, Kashiappa breathed his last.
It was a heart-rending sight at the mudslide mishap site. Kashiappa was buried neck-deep in the debris. Two other survivors, lay completely interred in the debris. They were crying for help.
The workers had an unenviable task on their hands. The two men were stuck in such a place that one wrong move could have resulted in more debris crashing down on them, sources said.
Eye witnesses held the negligence on part of developers and site engineer responsible for the tragedy.
