Mangalore, Mar 28: With the withdrawal of nomination of independent candidate Iruvail Chandrahas Shetty, there are now 16 candidates contesting for the Lok Sabha seat from Dakshina Kannada district, said deputy commissioner and district election office A B Ibrahim.

He informed that Supreeth Kumar Poojary, a Lok Sabha candidate who had filed his nomination papers both as an independent as well as from Hindustan Janata Party, had clubbed his nomination papers and would continue to contest as a candidate from HJP.
Appointment of election agent by each candidate
Detailing on the electoral process, he said that an election agent could be appointed by a contesting candidate under section 40 of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, who would have powers and privileges similar to that of the particular candidate. Election agents appointed by their respective official candidates are permitted to oversee the polling and counting of votes at any point of time, he said.
Another complaint of MCC violation
Mr Ibrahim said that one complaint pertaining to violation of moral code of conduct was filed by Congress leader Ivan D 'Souza on Thursday, on the grounds of making baseless allegations against health minister U T Khader on BDA civic amenity site allotment row.
Over 13,200 firearms deposited
He informed that about 92 percent of registered firearms had been deposited by their owners with the police department. Over 13,200 firearms have been deposited within the deadline set for this task, he said.
“The None of the above ' (NOTA) option in the ballot list, will be referred to as ??????? ???? ???? ' in regional languages, as directed by the Election Commission. The provision of Rule 49-O, under which a valid voter decides not to cast his vote, will still apply to these Lok Sabha elections and voters are allowed to use that option,” he said.
