Mangalore, Jun 1: A speeding lorry plunged off a bridge and landed in riverside gorge at Kulur on the outskirts of the city, injuring two persons and incurring heavy losses.
The incident took place on Sunday morning at around 7 a.m. when the onion-laden goods lorry was plying towards Mangalore. The lorry was carrying onions worth Rs 3.5 lakh.
According to sources, the driver swerved towards the extreme left when a speeding gas tanker coming from the back side tried to overtake his lorry on the bridge.
However, the lorry driver 's bid to prevent collusion resulted in another tragedy as his vehicle veered off the road and plunged off the bridge.
The lorry driver Zaib and cleaner Nagesh were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
A case has been registered at jurisdictional Panambur police station.
