Mangalore, Mar 27: Launching yet another tirade against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Dakshina Kannada B Janardhan Poojary said that although Modi was allowed to contest in the Lok Sabha elections as per the law, he had no moral right to do so.

BJP

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, he claimed that Modi was not an innocent man, and made scathing remarks on the falsified reports of development propagated by BJP government in favour of Modi.

There is negative growth rate in agricultural production under Modi 's rule, and close to 800 farmers have committed suicide in Gujarat state. As many as 60,000 small scale and large scale industries have shut down causing severe unemployment in the state, while lakhs of acres of land was given to giant industrialists at throwaway rates, he said, adding that the development projected in Gujarat was mere hype created by Modi.

Mr Poojary said that after the lower court acquitted Modi over the 2002 Gujarat genocide, an appeal against the verdict was pending in the high court. The country will not accept Modi as the Prime Minister, he declared, adding that if elected to the Lok Sabha, he would question Modi in the Parliament.

“The BJP is campaigning in the country for votes in the name of Narendra Modi, and not by projecting its Lok Sabha candidates. While Modi and his party are indulging in divisive politics using hatred to divide communities, Congress being a secular party, are appealing for peace and accord. We do not indulge in division of people on basis of religion or resort to intimidation to pull votes. Hence, this (the elections) is a fight between hatred and peace,” he said.

Days after promising to reintroduce the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) in the district, Mr Poojary said that he would drop the massive project since a major chunk of people had opposed it. “I will not bring any project in the district which is not desired by the people,” he declared, promising to remain true to his word.

elcoming the reservation provided for the lower class families in all castes and religions including that for Brahmins and Goud Sarawat Brahmins in the Congress manifesto released by party supremo Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, he said that he would fight for its total implementation if he was elected to the Parliament.
