Mangalore, Apr 19: A complete shutdown was observed in Krishnapur, Katipalla, Chokkabettu and Jokatte localities of Mangalore taluk after Saturday afternoon in protest against the killing of a local youth by sleuths of Anti-Naxal-Force at Sringeri check-post in Chikmagalur district.

An eerie atmosphere prevailed in the region after the news of the killing of a local youth was begun to spread. Kabeer, a resident of Krishnapur, was gunned down by ANF in the wee hours of Saturday when he was transporting cattle along with four other traders.

“Kabeer was one of our best friends. He was known in the town for his helping nature. He was a good cricket player too. ANF murdered him without any reason,” said Sajid, a resident of Krishnapur.

Muneer Katipalla, DYFI state president, said that his organisation and local residents of Krishnapur demand CBI inquiry into the killing of Kabeer by ANF. “Those who have committed this crime must be arrested immediately. Guilty must be punished,” he said.

He said that Kabeer was an innocent and friendly youth. “He had played cricket yesterday evening along with his friends. Last night he had been to Theerthahalli as part of his cattle trade. People of the town cannot believe that he is no more,” he said, adding that the family members of the deceased are shell-shocked.

He said that people of Krishnapur and surrounding areas are peace-lovers. They decided to observe shut-down after family members of the victim were attacked by Sangh Parivar activists in Sringeri, he added.
