Mangalore, Sep 27: After the Supreme Court vacated a stay order on the controversial practice of'modified made snana' at Kukke Subramanya temple in the district, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the devotees would be allowed to observe the ritual as per the judgment given by the apex court.
The apex court had earlier vacated a stay order on the verdict on'modified made snana' at Kukke Subramanya temple, where the High Court of Karnataka had agreed to the state government's decision to allow'ede snana'.
On his arrival at Mangalore International Airport, on Saturday Siddaramaiah clarified to presspersons that it was not acceptable to roll on the'prasadam' offered to the deity at the temple, since prasadam was meant for the devotees.
He said that the state government had made all necessary arrangements ahead of Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa's arrival in the state capital Bangalore to appear before a special court for the verdict in a disproportionate assets case. Adequate security forces have been deployed as part of security arrangements. There has been no threat on the life of Jayalalithaa in Bangalore, he said.
He said that the law and order situation was being efficiently maintained in the state. Apart from stray incidents of moral policing, there is no major threat to the state. Strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands, he said, adding that steps would be taken to ensure such incidents would not be allowed to occur.
Reacting to the recent allegations made by Shobha Karandlaje of the failure in police system, he reminded of the situation during the BJP rule in the state, such as church attacks, pub attack and communal clashes.
He also told reporters that a meeting of activists, farmers and citizens would be called to discuss and convince them regarding the Nethravati river-diversion (Yettinahole) project.
