Dammam, Dec 28: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, at least three Umrah pilgrims from south India lost their lives and around 35 other pilgrims suffered injuries on Dammam – Riyadh highway in Saudi Arabia.

The victims have been identified as Shaukath, a resident of Yedapadavu in Mangaluru, Kabeer Saqafi from Pattambi in Kerala and Sayeed Alavi alias Kodoor Kunhon from Malappuram.
According to sources Shaukath was driving the bus and he was supposed to return home in a few days.
All the injured have been admitted to various hospitals near Dammam. The condition of some of the injured is said to be critical.
The tragedy took place when the bus in which Umrah pilgrims were travelling rammed into a trailer near Dammam. The impact of the collision was such that the front portion of the bus was reduced into a bundle of metals.
The accident occurred a day after three Umrah pilgrims from Kerala lost their lives in a road mishap on Sunday.
