Mangaluru, Dec 28: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by five friends belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities under the limits of Kavoor Police Station in Mangaluru.
In her complaint the 16-year-old victim has identified the alleged rapists as Prashant Shetty, a resident of Kunjathbail, and his friends Salman, Adil, Naufal and another youth.
It is learnt that the main accused Prashant, who was a neighbour of the girl, used to tease and harass her in the beginning. Later he managed to befriend her and promised to marry her.
The victim in her complaint stated that on December 27 Prashant and his friend Salman contacted her over phone and asked her to come to the bus stop in Panjimogaru.
When the girl reached the bus stand Prashant’s another friend Adil picked her up and took her to a house in Panjimogaru where Prashant and three of his friends were waiting for her.
The girl was then offered a glass of juice and sexually assaulted by all the five friends. The victim stated that she was beaten and tortured when she tried to resist.
They also threatened of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
After sometime Adil took her in his bike and dropped near a college. A few local residents, who noticed the girl sitting on the roadside inquired her and took her home, the complainant stated.
All five arrested
According to the police, as the accused were coming out of the room, the local residents saw them and they tried to escape. The residents caught them and handed them over to the police.
The police arrested all five for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The girl was being treated at a hospital where she was provided psychological counselling and support.
