Mangaluru, Dec 26: Dakshina Kannada district administration, in association with, southern regional centre of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) will organise a distribution camp of free aids and equipment for persons with physical disabilities in the district under Assistance to Disables Persons (ADIP) scheme on Sunday.
Briefing mediapersons at a press conference on Friday, DK district physically challenged welfare officer Chandrika S Nayak said that out of the 750 persons with disabilities who were assessed at a comprehensive assessment camp held on January 24 in Mangaluru, 298 persons were selected in the district. The selected persons will receive their necessary aids and equipment worth Rs 13 lakh at the distribution camp on Sunday, she informed.
She said a total of 298 beneficiaries from Mangaluru, Sullia, Puttur, Belthangady, Bantwal and Kundapur (Udupi) taluks would be distributed necessary aids and equipment in the camp. Aids such as 32 artificial limbs, four artificial arms, 46 calipers, two congenital talipes equines varus shoes, five modified shoes, posterior splints, 35 wheelchairs, six tri-wheelchairs, eight elbow crutches, 77 hearing aids, 47 walking sticks for the visually-impaired, 39 Braille slates and 68 mentally-handicapped children's activity kits will be distributed to the beneficiaries in the camp, she said.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that only those persons who had been selected as beneficiaries in the assessment camp in January would be distributed with the necessary aids on Sunday.
He informed that transport arrangements had been made to bring the beneficiaries from distant places in the district to the city.
