Mangaluru, Aug 15: Three persons of Nepal origin have been arrested by the Central Crime Branch police in the city on the charge of stealing expensive electronic gadgets from two shops.
As many as 14 iPhones, five iPads, four Apple laptops and Rs. 1.97 lakh in cash were stolen from Maple store in Balmatta on August 3.
A gang had dug a hole on a side wall to enter the store and escaped with the expensive gadgets and cash.
On August 2, the same gang stole a digital camera, some tablets and other electronic gadgets from Family Super Market.
The modus operandi of the gang led the CCB police to suspect involvement of some persons from Nepal who had allegedly carried out similar thefts in New Delhi and surrounding areas.
The CCB questioned Ganesh Sakre (30), who reportedly admitted to the theft based on information by Prakash (30) and Prakash alias Sher (27), who worked as security guards in Mangaluru. Ganesh Sarke claimed the involvement of two more persons in the theft, who had fled with some stolen goods to Nepal.
The police have arrested Ganesh Sarke, Prakash and Prakash alias Sher and produced them before the local magistrate and recovered seven mobile phones, a laptop and two digital cameras.
The police have urged people to enquire into the credentials of people they hire and inform local police.
