Mangaluru, Nov 3: With seven cases of murder registered in the past 25 days in Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate limits and over ten cases of attempted murder in the past month, the coastal city has been engulfed by an atmosphere of fear over such acts of violence which directly affect law and order situation.

In Moodbidri limits, the reason for a murder case was rivalry between two gangs of miscreants belonging to different communities while in Kavoor limits, the murder occurred due to a property dispute. In other cases, two were murdered on roadsides in Thokkottu and Moodushedde due to rivalry between rowdy gangs, while two others having underworld links were killed inside the jail premises in Mangaluru sub jail.
On October 7, a person named Mohammed was stabbed to death in Ambikanagar in Kavoor limits. On October 9, Prashant Poojary (27), a Bajrang Dal activist, who was known for his illegal activities was murdered in Moodbidri town.
On October 26, a rowdy-sheeter named Vicky alias Vikram (33) was hacked to death with swords by a rival gang in Thokkottu.
On the third day after the gang war in Thokkottu, a similar gang war occurred in Moodushedde on October 28 where Vijeth (29) was killed due to old enmity.
In a group clash which started due to a petty reason, a resident of Kasargod Krishna (32) was murdered near Infosys in Kottara Chowki in late hours of the night.
Madoor Isubu and Ganesh sehtty, the two under-trials having underworld links were brutally murdered in Mangaluru sub jail on November 2.
Apart from these murder cases, over ten cases of attempted murder have been registered over the past month in Mangaluru Commissionerate limits, out of which four cases have occurred due to communal reasons.
