Mangaluru, Apr 27: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport on Monday seized smuggled gold from the possession of a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
The seized gold was in the form of 16 pieces of 10 tola gold bars totally weighing 1865.650 grams worth nearly Rs 51 lakh.
The passenger had brought these gold rods by concealing them underneath the seat in the aircraft in which he had travelled.
The accused passenger is Mohammed Luqman Ahmed, aged about 29 years, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on at 9.30 a.m. by Jet Airways Flight No. 9W531 from Dubai. He is a resident of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
He was arrested and produced before the chief judicial Magistrate, Mangaluru, for remand. Further investigation is under progress.
