Mangaluru, Oct 30: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), which has a precarious table top runway, will soon have a primary radar system in place at a new building close to the air traffic control tower, for ensuring precise landing of aircrafts which will vastly improve the safety parameters for aircrafts during take-off and landing.

The primary radar system, which will be a major component to the airport, is likely to be commissioned in July 2016. The radar system will expedite the landing of incoming flights and will also help avoid diversion of flights, which is a frequent phenomenon during bad weather. It will be a big step towards upgrading safety mechanism and vastly improve aircraft operations, he informed.
He further said that the new radar system would be hosted in a new building close to the new ATC tower in the airport premises. “We have already received the primary radar equipment which costs an estimated Rs 20 crore,” he told reporters.
