Mangaluru on alert: Prohibitory orders imposed across the city

Mangaluru, Apr 29: The coastal city has been put on alert following intelligence inputs about possible attempt by communal forces to disrupt peace in the society.

Prohibitory orders have also been imposed in and around Mangaluru. Police sources said that Section 144 has been imposed for a period of 36 hours from 6 a.m. on Friday April 29 to 6 p.m. on April 30 in the city.

The development comes in the wake of a spate of stabbing incidents reported from Ullal region, that are seen as retaliation to the murder of Raju Kotian, a fisherman.

The orders apply for the areas that fall under the jurisdiction of all the police stations in the city except Panambur. The section is in forces under the limits of Mangaluru North, East, West, South, Konaje and Ullal police station, sources said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Shantharaju, said that the prohibitory orders imposed as part of precautionary measures to avert untoward incidents and to maintain order in the city.
