Mangaluru-bound passenger offered sedative biscuits, looted in train

Mangaluru, Aug 30: A 38-year-old passenger was offered sedatives hidden in cream biscuits and was then looted by a group of co-passengers while travelling in Matsyagandha Express towards Mangaluru in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The victim, identified as Clifford Vegas, resident of Vittla, was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru after he was found in a critical condition on board the train that reached the city on Monday morning.

It is learnt that Mr Vegas had boarded the Mangaluru-bound train at Panvel junction railway station in Maharashtra on Sunday at around 10 p.m.

After a sometime a group of four-five co-passengers started talking to him closely and one among them offered him cream biscuits.

Mr Vegas lost his consciousness eating these biscuits. The co-passengers are suspected to have stolen his gold chain, ring, smart phone and cash.

When the train reached its last point in Manglauru, some passengers in the same coach saw Mr Vegas lying unconscious on his seat. Soon they informed the authorities, who admitted him to a hospital.
