Mangaluru, Dec 29: The United Christian Association donated a house, built at a cost of Rs 15 lakh, to social reformer Harekala Hajabba here recently.

Hajabba, a fruit seller, is instrumental in setting up a school at Harekala village located at about 23 km from Mangaluru and transforming the lives of hundreds of students. Hajabba’s inspirational life has found mention in the Kannada textbooks of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga as well as Davangere University.
The association members had felicitated Hajabba during last year’s Christmas celebrations and had discovered that his house was in a dilapidated condition.
It started the construction work of the new house later on September 13. Fr J B Saldanha of Permannur Church, Esha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemaru Sandeepani Sadanaand, Harekala Mosque Ulema Sharief Khazi Nandawara and Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader laid the foundation stone for the construction of his house.
Hajabba had used all the cash awards he had received so far for upgrading the infrastructure in the school that he had started.
The association also donated another house built at a cost of Rs 5.5 lakh to Patricia of Permannur, whose house had collapsed due to the incessant rains recently.
Fr J B Saldanha, Esha Vittaldas Swamiji, Al Haji Hamza of Ullal Dargah, Mangaluru South legislator J R Lobo, Corporator Bhaskar, President of UCA Alban Menezes, Vice President Francis D’Costa and others were present.
