Mangaluru, Jun 19: Based on a tip off given by Air India security, officials of Customs of the Mangalore International Airport intercepted a passenger and seized about 4.110 kilograms (including moisture content) of dark green dry leaves believed to be 'cannabis', a narcotic drug commonly known as marijuana or ganja.
The accused has been identified as Muhammed Ershad (31) son of Chemberika Mohamood, a resident of Kasaragod.
He was on his way to Doha by Air India Express flight IX821 scheduled for departure on Thursday.
The narcotic is valued at about Rs.5-lakh in the international market and was recovered from the baggage in the possession of the accused.
The customs officials arrested and produced him before the chief judicial magistrate, Mangaluru for remand.
Further investigation is under progress, noted S Rajarethinam, assistant commissioner of customs, MIA in a communique on Friday.
