Mangaluru, Dec 30: Well-known Sunni scholar Al-Haj E K Ibrahim Musliyar has taken over as the Khazi of Badriya Juma Masjid Muslim Jamath, Seventh Block, Krishnapura, a town near Surathkal on the outskirts of the city.
Kerala Jamiyyatul Ulama advisory council member and Latifiya Islamic association president Ustadul Asathid M Ali Kunhi Musliyar Shiriya Khazi formally announced him as the new local Khazi at a programme held on the premises of the Badriya Juma Masjid on Sunday.
Karnataka state Jamiyyatul Ulama president and Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan Khazi P M Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal inaugurated the programme and delivered keynote address highlighting the significance of a Khazi in a Muslim society.
Speaking on the Maulana Athooru Ibrahim Sakhafi urged the local Muslims to seek the help of the Khazi to solve their internal problems. Badriya Juma Masjid president B M Mumtaz Ali presided over the programme.
Mangaluru City North MLA B A Mohiddeen Bava, Dakshina Kannada District Wakf Advisory Committee chairman S M Rashid Haji, Karnataka State Wakf Board member Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district Muslim Central Committee president K S Mohammed Masood, Sayyad Madani Darga committee president U S Hamza, JD(S) national working committee member Hyder Partipadi were present among others.
Badriya Juma Masjid former president B M Hussain, NMPT Aboobacker, Jamath vice-president Abdul Hakeem, joint secretary S Ismail, treasurer Mohammed Shedya, and honorary auditor B A Iqbal were also present on the dais.
General Secretary of Markazul Huda Women's College, Puttur M S M Abdul Rashid Zaini delivered the introductory address. General Secretary Haji T M Sharif welcomed. Ibrahim Musliyar Pumpwell recited the verses of Quran. Joint Secretary S Ismail proposed the vote of thanks.
