Mangaluru, Aug 26: An elderly man was run over by a speeding train while crossing a railway track last night near Thokkottu in Mangaluru taluk.
The victim has been identified as Abbas, a 62-year-old resident of Deralakatte village in the taluk. He was a sack dealer by profession.
The tragedy took place when Abbas was on his way to his daughter’s house located in Manchila near Thokkottu.
Abbas had to cross two parallel railway tracks. It is learnt that he was in a hurry and noticed a train coming from his right side at the last moment.
To escape from the speeding train he jumped to another track without noticing another train coming from another direction on the second track.
Such was the intensity of the tragedy that his face and body were disfigured beyond recognition.
Sleuths from Ullal Police Station and Railway police rushed to the spot. A case has been registered.
