Mangaluru Nov 17: An engineering student allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the Mechanical department building at National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, on the outskirts of the city today.
The deceased has been identified as Anand Pathak (20), a native of Maharashtra, who was pursuing third year mechanical engineering at NIT-K. He was also part of musical club.
Pathak jumped off from 6th floor of mechanical department building after he was allegedly rebuked by a professor over attendance shortage.
According to sources, a professor attached to Mechanical department had warned Pathak, who had attendance shortage, that he wouldn’t be allowed to appear for exam. The professor continuously snubbed Pathak which made him take this extreme step.
