Mangaluru, Aug 8: The Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, has been granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Health Care Providers (NABH) with effect from August 3.
Father Muller Charitable Trust Director Fr. Patrick Rodrigues told presspersons here on Saturday that the college hospital was accredited by NAAC with A Grade, and the laboratory of the hospital by the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL).
Fr. Rodrigues said the accreditation process started a few years back and with it, the hospital’s responsibility to stakeholders had increased considerably.
The institution has one of the oldest hospitals in the region with a turnover of over 1,500 outpatients and 1,000 inpatients everyday and also has the second largest psychiatry set-up in the State.
With a 135-year history in healthcare, the institution gradually moved towards academics from 1980. While it commenced postgraduate programmes in 1991, it started the medical college in 1999.
Fr. Rodrigues said the institution has introduced many new services, including oncology wherein it has a full-fledged team of radiation oncology and medical and surgical oncologists. It has constantly been upgrading the medical and surgical facilities in the hospital.
Besides, the institution is also building an auditorium with 1,250 seating capacity, a state-of-the-art indoor stadium and a multi-storey parking complex. A new super speciality wing is also in the pipeline.
Hospital administrator Fr. Richard Coelho, medical college administrator Fr. Roshan Crasta and others were present.
