Mangaluru, Mar 6: Two disgruntled local leaders of Congress and BJP were inducted into Janata Dal (Secular) on Tuesday by former chief minister H D Deve Gowda at a party convention at Town Hall in the city.
K Ashraf, former Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation and Ramesh S, former chairman of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority, began a new political career in the JD(S) by launching a tirade against Congress and BJP from which they came.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashraf said that he was fed up with the Congress, which according to him always have been unjust towards minorities.
“Congress leaders are known for false promises. I have lost faith on them. They had promised to arrest RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for promoting animosity between Hindus and Muslims. But, they dint fulfil their promise,” he said.
Apparently trying to project himself as a Muslim leader, Mr Ashraf, who is also the present of Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkoota, an agitation group, said that he would not tolerate if his community faces injustice. “I will fight for justice,” he said.
Kumaraswamy said, "Both Congress and BJP are engaged in politics in the name of religion. While one is engaged in pouring kerosene, the other is lighting the fire."
He said "both the national parties are responsible for disturbing peace in the coastal districts for political gain."
"The Congress has failed in checking the violent politics of BJP. Give us a chance, we will curtail all their activities within 24 hours. Measures will be taken to end strife in the name of religion," he said.
