Mangaluru, Jun 22: Dhakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union, Mangaluru Press Club and State Forest Department jointly celebrated ‘Vanamahotsava’ on Monday at Kadri Park in the city. The initiative aims at spreading environmental awareness and consciousness among the public.
B. Ramanath Rai, Karnataka minister for forest, ecology and environment, and DK district-in-charge inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling in the park.
“As we live in an era where environment is being exposed to drastic changes, each and every person in the society should be aware of the necessity to protect the forest and biodiversities, said Mr Rai.
Planting the saplings and protecting the forest should be taken as the individual responsibility, he said adding that the media has a greater responsibility towards this noble cause.
Dr. Sanjay Bijoor, Chief Forest Conservation Officer Mangaluru, Clifford Lobo, Range Forest Officer Mangaluru, Roopa D Bengara, Corporator, Mangaluru City Corporation, Khader Shah, District Information Officer, Ramakrishna, Mangaluru Press Club President were present on the occasion. DKWJU former president P B Harish Rai welcomed the gathering.
