Mangaluru, Aug 11: The women's cell of city based Besant Women's College, in co-ordination with the students' union and IQAC arranged a demonstration programme on the self-defense techniques for women on recently. The demonstration was given by martial artist Karthik S. Kateel.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Kateel said that most strong and hefty men can be overpowered easily by striking at the eyes, nose or the groin, which are their weak points.
The demonstrations were simple and very easily adaptable by women. The demonstration was continuously explained with an explanative commentary in English and Kannada. His mother Smt. Shobhaltaha also participated in the demonstration by being a volunteer.
Ms. Shaila, III B.A also offered herself as a volunteer for two items. Mr. Kateel ended the show by doing a high fly kick to dislodge two carton boxes.
The program was interactive and was well received by the students.
Earlier, the Women's Cell in-charge Prof. Hemalatha, welcomed the gathering and the Principal Dr. Sathish Kumar Shettyempahasised the importance of Self-Defense for women.
“This programme has been aptly organized keeping in mind the dangers that are accosted by women these days”, he said. He praised Mr. Karthik for his selfless Service, which was mainly to empower women in self-defense tactics.
Ms. Radha proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was successfully compered by Ms. Shaila S. Shet. The programme concluded with the National anthem.
