Mangaluru, Jan 8: A major fire broke out at a small colony in Hoige Bazar in the city thanks to an LPG cylinder explosion on Friday.
A few shacks belonging to Tamil families were gutted in fire causing a huge loss for them. However no casualty or injury was reported.
It is learnt that a gas cylinder, kept inside one of the three shanties that were destroyed in the mishap, was burst due to high temperature.
A large quantity of dry fish was stored in the destroyed shanties, sources said.
As the fire began to spread two fire tenders from Pandeshwar were called. They managed to douse the fire completely within few minutes.
A loss of over Rs 2 lakh has been estimated after the mishap. All the shacks belong to the migrants from Tamil Nadu who were working at fisheries harbour in Bunder.
