
Simone Sajjan a native of Bengaluru who is pursuing his medical course at the Father Muller Medical College here, received an SMS about Rs 14,993 being deducted from his account in a State Bank of India branch in Indiranagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
When he checked with a local branch here, Sajjan was told that the transaction had happened in an ATM in London.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K Santosh Babu said that Sajjan’s ATM card could have been cloned. Mr. Santosh Babu said that apart from card cloning, fraudsters could have made use of a duplicate ATM card. Sajjan has now got his ATM card blocked.
The Mangaluru South Police have registered a case under Section 66 (C) of the Information Technology Act and also under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
