Mangaluru, Oct 19: Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday inaugurated the new market built at a cost of Rs 92.5 lakh at Jeppu by Mangaluru City Corporation.
Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, MUDA president Ibrahim Kodichal, Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred and others were present on the occasion.
The two-floor market building was constructed to house fish and vegetable vendors in the same building. Around 21 stalls in the ground floor have been provided for fresh fish and dry fish vendors, while the first floor have stalls for vegetable vendors.
Speaking after inaugurating the new market building, Mr Sorake said that the upgradation of markets in Kadri, Kankanady, Urwa and Central Market would commence shortly on PPP model.
Further provisions will be made in new Jeppu market to facilitate fresh fish vendors, he said. Former Mayor Mahabala Marla, Shashidhar Hegde, Congress leader PV Mohan and others were present on the occasion.
