Mangaluru, Apr 23: In a shocking incident, a murder convict has given a slip to police at a court premises in the city while he was being escorted to prison.

Akshay was one of the accused in the murder case of Kumara alias Bongu, who was hacked to death near Kavoor on June 15, 2011.
Investigations had revealed that a gang-war between the two rowdies – Santosh and Pradeep – led to the murder of Kumar. Santosh, Gaurish, Harsharaj, Gautham and Akshay were the accused in the case.
On Wednesday Akshay was brought to the court amidst high security. After the trial, the judge pronounced him guilty. The quantum of sentence was scheduled to be pronounced on Thursday.
While the police were about to take him back to the prison, he asked the cops to allow him to go to the toilet saying that he needed to answer nature’s call. But, he did not return.
The police have launched a manhunt to nab the convict. A case has been registered at Mangaluru North police station.
