Mangaluru, Dec 9: Several Muslim organisations in Dakshina Kannada have boycotted the peace meeting hosted by the city police commissionerate on Tuesday following recent communal clashes in various parts of Mangaluru taluk.
The Muslim Central Committee decided not to take part in the meeting for not inviting any of the elected representatives to the meeting, stated its general secretary in a media release.
On the other hand Samyukta Muslim Jamath boycotted the meeting in protest against police department's move to prevent using loudspeaker for Adan or prayer call at a Masjid in Ulaibettu following recent clashes.
The local unit of Jamaath-e-Islami Hind also has decided to stay away from the meeting and extend moral support to the Muslim Central Committee.
The Muslim organisations have also accused the police department of practicing discrimination.
Following are the reasons given by various Muslim organizations of Dakshina Kananda to boycott the meeting:
1) Absence of elected representatives including ministers and MLAs from Mangaluru and surrounding constituencies.
2) For inviting Satyajith Suratkal, who is accused of provoking people during communal clashes. He is also accused of violating Section 144 imposed on Ulaibettu and surrounding areas on Monday.
3) Not inviting B A Mohideen Bawa, the MLA of Mangaluru North constituency, wherein the communal clashes occurred in recent days. Instead of Mr Bawa, the names of former MLA Krishna J Palemar and many other Sangh Parivar leaders are mentioned in the invitation.
