Mangaluru, Jul 9: The city police foiled attempts of a few cattle dealers to transport the animals to a slaughter house and seized as many as 16 heads of cattle on Thursday.
The Force tempo traveller which evaded an interception bid by a team of police at Kulur early on Thursday was later stopped by another team of police near New Chitra Talkies in the city.
However, two persons on board the vehicle including the driver managed to escape.
It is learnt that the cows were being taken to a licenced slaughter house at Kudroli.
According to police sources one of the 17 cows mercilessly stuffed into the vehicle was found dead.
The police then seized the vehicle along with cattle and took it to jurisdictional Barke Police Station in the city.
The development comes a day after local Vishwa Hindu Parishad members accused Mangaluru police of failing to curb cattle transportation in the region.
