Mangaluru, Nov 11: After a gap of 13 months, the newly-renovated Town Hall building, one of the prominent public structures of the city, will be inaugurated on Saturday, November 14, said Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred.

Announcing this at a press conference at her office here on Wednesday, she said that the renovated building would be inaugurated by DK district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai and Urban Development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Saturday. The inaugural programme will be followed by Children's Day programme, stage drama and Yakshagana performance, she said.
She told press persons that the Town Hall would be rented for programmes from December onwards, once the final work was completed.
Renovation at a cost of Rs 4.58 crore
Mayor Jacintha said that the special repairs and renovation project had been taken up on the occasion of the golden jubilee year of the construction of Town Hall which was built in 1964. The total cost of the repairs and renovation project was Rs 4.58 crore.
This includes installation of granite flooring, green room, VIP room, waterproofing works and emergency repairs of the auditorium at a cost of Rs 99.75 lakh, installation of acoustic panelling, stage curtains, sound system, lighting system, false ceiling and construction of catwalk at an estimated Rs 98 lakh, seating installation at Rs 60 lakh, installation of air conditioning (AC) at an estimated Rs 48 lakh, installation of new cable and generator at an estimated Rs 49 lakh, establishing water supply at a cost of Rs 4.50 lakh, underground drainage works at Rs 4.90 lakh, generator room construction at Rs 4.90 lakh, electric works at Rs 15 lakh, gardening and mural works at a total cost of Rs 10 lakh, installation of CCTV cameras at a cost of Rs 9 lakh, and remaining works at an estimated cost of Rs 53.50 lakhs, she informed.
