Mangaluru, Nov 13: Tension prevailed in Bunder area of Mangaluru city on Friday after trouble mongers pelted stones at a mosque a couple of hours after Juma prayers were held.
The security presence in Bunder area was less compare to other parts of the city on the day of daylong bandh imposed by Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in the wake of Thursday’s violence in Bantwal, which claimed the life of an innocent youth.
However, soon after miscreants targeted a mosque in Kasai Galli, security was tightened in the area. City Police Commissioner S Murugan also rushed to the spot and urged the local residents to maintain peace.
It is learnt that the miscreants, who came on a car at around 3 p.m. damaged the window glass panes of the mosque and sped away before anyone could catch them.
Four held
Within a few hours after the attack the police have reportedly detained four persons including two rowdy-sheeters in connection with the case.
They have been identified as Nithin Shetty, Sushant, Gurukiran and Manju alias Rowdy Manja. The arrests were made a team of police led by inspector Shantaram.
