Mangaluru, Apr 9: Three Muslim youths were attacked with lethal weapons by a gang of six miscreants last night at Kasba Bengre area in the city.
The victims have been identified as Anweez, Siraj and Ijaz. Among them the condition of 17-year-old Anweez is said to be critical. He has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital. The other two are undergoing treatment in another hospital.
It is learnt that the three youths were returning home after visiting Tannirbavi when a group of six masked men waylaid their two-wheelers near the football ground at Kasaba Bengre.
The miscreants attacked the bikers with sharp weapons. In spite of suffering injuries, two among them managed to escape and contacted their friends over phone. They were shifted to AJ Hospital in the city.
However, Anweez couldn’t run away after the attack as he had sustained deep wounds. He collapsed near the football ground. A few local residents shifted him to Unity Hospital in the city.
A case has been registered at jurisdictional Panambur police station and investigations are on. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. The police suspect that personal rivalry led to the attack.
