Mangaluru, Nov 22: On the occasion of 90 years of existence since Karnataka Rajya Devadigara Sangha, Mangaluru was formed, the newly modernised Devadigara Samaja Bhavan was inaugurated in Mannagudda here on Sunday.
The Samaja Bhavan was inaugurated by Malati Moily and former chief minister and chairman of Parliament Financial Standing Committee Dr M Veerappa Moily.
A commemorative edition was released on the occasion in the presence of Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr Veerendra Heggade, to commemorate the completion of 90 years of the Sangha.
On the occasion, Veerappa Moily was honoured with a felicitation by the Sangha.
Speaking after the felicitation, Dr Heggade said that the progressive thinking and deliberations of Veerappa Moily had a speed, with which he built his prolonged career. Hailing from a poor family, he built his personality at every stage and accomplished several feats. He also showed various facets of personality as he grew in his career, he said, adding that Moily had achieved notable feats such as implementing the CET system in the state.
He said that Mr Moily was a man who knew how to utilise the opportunities that came his way to the fullest. He also had a genuine concern for the poor and represented them as a political leader, he said.
After the felicitation, international athlete Jayanti Devadiga and Karunakar M H from Mangaluru were also felicitated in the programme.
Minister for Forest B Ramanath Rai, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru MLA J R Lobo, Mayor Jacintha Alfred, Dr K V Devadiga, Dr B S Sherigar, Harish Sherigar, Vasu Devadiga, president of the Sangha Vaman Maroli, vice president Ratnakar Devadiga and several others were present during the programme.
