Mangaluru, Dec 23: In an unfortunate incident, multi-talented personality Seetharama Heggade, drowned when he ventured into the waters of Arabian Sea to undertake 'samudra snana' on Monday on the occasion of Ellamavasye near Marigudi in Suratkal.
Despite best efforts, people at the spot were unable to rescue him. His body was found later in the day by locals near Mallamar beach in Suratkal.
Mr Heggade had served for 16 years in the Army and wrote voraciously both in Tulu and Kannada. His father Polali Sheenappa Heggade was one of the leaders in the forefront in the Tulu movement years ago.
He had served as the secretary of Bengaluru Tulu Koota and president of Buntara Sangha Bengaluru. He had also served as the editor of the work 'Snehachintane' published by the Sangha.
His untimely death has been mourned by family, relatives, litterateurs and several elected representatives from the twin coastal districts.
S R Heggade is survived by his wife Indira, a son and a daughter.
