Udupi, Aug 6: A 22-year-old man, who was taken into custody for inquiry in connect with his wife’s death case, allegedly ended his life last night at Manipal Police Station in Udupi district.
The deceased has been identified as Gaya Prasad, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Along with his wife Roshni (18), Gaya Prasad had come to Parkala village of Udupi district around two weeks ago from the north Indian state.
On Aust 3 Roshni ended her life by hanging herself in a factory’s accommodation at Parkala, where she had joined as a labourer.
Following this, Roshni’s brother filed a case with the jurisdictional Manipal police holding Gaya Prasad responsible for her death.
He was arrested by the police on Tuesday and on Wednesday night Gaya Prasad had urged the police to give him a bed sheet citing that it was too cold.
At around 11:30 p.m. a constable had reportedly seen him sleeping inside a cell. At around 11:45 p.m. police personnel heard a strange sound from the toilet. He had hung himself from the window grill of the toilet.
