Mangaluru, Oct 12: Municipal administration and minority welfare minister Qamar-ul Islam said that Karnataka the government had released a sum of Rs 1 crore to build Maulana Azad Bhavan in all district headquarters in the state including Mangaluru.

Interacting with media persons after paying a visit to the post-graduation girls’ hostel for minorities in Chilimbi in the city on Monday Mr Islam said that in Mangaluru the proposed Bhavan will come up at Pandeshwar area.
“The Bhavan will house all offices related to the welfare of minorities under one roof, including a well-equipped information centre to provide information on all welfare programmes meant for the minorities. There is no stay currently imposed for the construction of the Bhavan. I have spoken to Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim in this regard who assured that there was no further problem in constructing the Bhavan in Mangaluru,” he informed.
He said that he would try his best to ensure the completion of Maulana Azad Bhavan within eight months in all major districts.
He also said that the minority welfare department focused on providing education, health, skill development and housing for the minorities in the state. With regard to education, the department had sanctioned a scholarship of Rs 20 lakhs each to nearly 200 merit students who were given admission to colleges in seven countries including USA, Canada, England, Germany, France, China and Australia, he added.
During the minister’s visit to the hostel, a final year BBM student from Bidar said that the hostel had been equipped with good facilities including good food and there was no shortage of water for the inmates. All the inmates are friendly and cooperative including the warden in-charge, she said.
