Mangaluru, Dec 25: Mangaluru City North MLA B A Mohideen Bawa said that he would make arrangements for the swift nomination for the post of Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner which had been vacant since the past eight months, within a month.
Responding to the queries of presspersons at a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the MCC commissioner would be nominated by the end of January.
He said that a Janata Darshan programme would be held at Suratkal on Saturday to address the problems of people in MCC wards under Mangaluru North constituency, which would be presided over by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. The Janata Darshan programme will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hotel Lalith International at Suratkal, he informed.
He said that the programme would be inaugurated by Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes, while urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MCC Mahabala Marla and corporators of the concerned wards would be present. Facilities such as sites for the landless families, autorickshaws under self-employment scheme, wheelchairs for physically challenged, ration cards for around 200 beneficiaries and health care facilities will be distributed during the programme, he informed.
On the issue of tackling pollution emanating from the refinery company MRPL located on the outskirts of Mangaluru, Mr Bawa said that he would discuss the issue with the chief minister along with a delegation and also bring it to the notice of the union minister.
He also warned major companies in his constituency against utilising their funds under corporate social responsibility (CSR) for development of other taluks. "The companies should utilise their CSR funds for the development of local communities, failing which I will take up a fight against them," he stressed.
