
Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Mayor of Mangalore Mahabala Marla said that the city corporation would launch an awareness campaign involving children to fight malaria in association with Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), Mangalore. With a tag line of Declaring War Against Malaria', the campaign will target close to 20,000 students from over 50 schools in and around the city and responsibility will be assigned to them to practically maintain records of malaria cases in their localities, he said.
The project will also include an array of activities such as teachers training workshops, lecture demonstration sessions, school presentations, and spreading aware on the causes and effects of malaria through Yakshagana, theatrical presentations and a massive painting event.
On the occasion, the mayor said that all the hospitals in the city limits had been directed by the city corporation to immediately submit their blood test reports to the health department of the MCC without delay, to ensure prompt medical attention to malaria victims. Four teams of 49 members have been conducting a survey on malaria and creating awareness about the disease in households, he said.
The impact analysis of the awareness campaign and evaluation will be done in April 2015, as per the campaign timeline.
Deputy mayor Kavitha Vasu, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar S, CIL directors Sachitha Nandagopal and Srinivasan Nandagopal and others were present.
