
Since the prices have nearly doubled from their normal rates, non-vegetarians and seafood lovers currently have to shell out extra to relish their favourite food items.
At present, the rate of an egg in the market is around Rs 5, while the rate for chicken meat has reached from Rs 110 to Rs 150 per kg.
Whereas the cost of mackerel (Bangude fish) is currently Rs 280 per kg, prawns is Rs 310 per kg, sardines (Bootai) is Rs 100 per kg, Bolangir is Rs 150 per kg, crab is Rs 140 per kg, Madmal fish is Rs 120 per kg, pomfret is Rs 450 per kg and Koddai is Rs 210 per kg, as per current market rates.
In other non-vegetarian items, the prices of goat and sheep mutton have reached sky-high and range from Rs 360 to Rs 420 for a kg. Out of that, the Bannur mutton that is available in Mysuru is sold at Rs 500 per kg, which is not available in Dakshina Kannada.
Similarly, prices of dry fish have also increased - with Balyar costing Rs 550 per kg, Sorake costing Rs 300 per kg, dry prawns costing Rs 300 per kg, adavu costing Rs 200 per kg and dry mackerel Rs 150 per kg.
