Mangaluru, Jan 15: Auto-rickshaw fares in the city have once again gone up in Dakshina Kannada, with the minimum tariff being hiked by Rs 2. The Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Thursday gave nod for the increase in the minimum fare for autorickshaw rides up to a distance of 1.5 km from Rs. 23 to Rs. 25, with effect from January 15. However, the per km fare of Rs. 13 has not been touched.

In December last, the autorickshaw drivers unions had resorted to protests, including not operating between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., to force the RTA to budge to their demands.
The RTA had held a meeting for fare revision and the chairman A.B. Ibrahim had announced that a decision would be taken soon.
Mr. Ibrahim has laid down certain conditions to be adhered to by autorickshaw operators. They include display of fare chart issued by the regional transport office; display of driver’s information card; collection of only one and a half times of fare beyond the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation for vehicles issued permit for MCC limits; and installation of digital fare meters for all autorickshaws in the district within 60 days.
If operators were found to be demanding excess fare, they may call toll free number 1077 or send SMS to 9481802019, the order said.
