
Mangalore, Jan 21: The state government is contemplating to provide additional grant in the present fiscal year for special schools functioning in the state, said Minister for Youth Service and Sports K Abhayachandra Jain.
Speaking after handing over cheque of Rs 65, 000 each to two sports talents of Mangalore based St Agnes Special School Danan Saldanha and Moideen Thazman who secured silver medals in cricket held in Hunter stadium in Newcastle, Australia in December as part of the Children's Asia Pacific Special Olympics, he said he was not aware that the students have excelled in the sports.
“As soon as I got the information I have directed officials concerned to assist them by all means,” he said.
Mr Jain also gave a cheque Rs 25,000 to their coach Narayan Sherigar.
He said there is more demand for stadiums and play grounds in the state. To meet the demands, cooperation from local administration will be taken and play grounds will be developed, he added.
Sr. Marian Shruti, principal of the school and sports coach was present.
Challenges in preserving synthetic tracks
He said state has eight synthetic tracks and challenges are faced in preserving it. Installation of water sprinklers and developing of green grass will be done in coming days, he added.
