Mangaluru, Jan 28: Ivan D’Souza, Member of Legislative Council, has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to announce “Motte Bhagya” (egg scheme) in the budget for children in the wake of extreme malnutrition among them.
Speaking to media persons in the city, Mr D’Souza said that the supply can be made under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
Stating that about 50 per cent of children in Karnataka are suffering from malnutrition, he said children who do not eat eggs should be supplied with bananas.
He said that the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN) has asked to provide nutritious food to each and every child. There has been increase in malnutrition among children belonging to SC/ST, OBC and minority communities.
At the same time, he has also urged the Chief Minister to increase the unit-wise allocation to women and children under ICDS in view of increase in the cost of inputs.
The allocation should be increased from Rs. 6 for normal children; Rs. 9 for children with severe malnutrition and Rs. 7 for adolescent girls/ pregnant women/ lactating women to Rs. 8, Rs. 11 and Rs. 9 respectively.
