Kasaragod, Apr 6: Mass marriages should be promoted to combat the social menace of dowry system, Union Minister of State for Minorities Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said.

Lauding the programme, Mr. Naqvi urged clubs and voluntary organisation to come forward to host such events to help out poor families.
The function was solemnised in the presence of All Kerala Jamiyathul-Ulama State general secretary and spiritual leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobeckar Musliyar. Karnataka Minister U.T. Khader, Dakshina Kannada MLA Moideen Bava, local MLAs K. Kunhiraman, Trikaripur; E. Chandrashekaran, K. Kunhiraman, Uduma; KPCC general secretary K.P. Kunhikannan, IUML leader Cherkkalam Abdulla, and Iqubal Abdul Hameed, president of Gold Hill Club were present.
During the three-day programme, which began on Saturday, 19 couples from various communities would get married. Five sovereigns of gold and an autorikshaw would be gifted to each couple.
