Udupi, Apr 23: The Udupi district administration has cancelled the licence of Dreamz Scuba Diving operating from Shiroor near here, after one of its instructors allegedly molested a female techie.

Meanwhile, the Udupi district police have opened a rowdy-sheet against a scuba diving instructor, who has been charged with the molestation of a 23-year-old Bengaluru-based software engineer near Shiroor Beach near Byndoor on January 26.

Kavya Raman had come along with friends for the diving activity operated by Dreamz Scuba Diving. Instructor Dhirendra Rawat (46) is reported to have molested her underwater.

Once on the shore, Ms. Raman and her friends confronted the instructor and he was unable to give a satisfactory response. They lodged a complaint at the Byndoor Police Station and a case was registered under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). Rawat was arrested and produced before the court in Kundapur.

Ms. Raman has narrated her ordeal on the media platform ‘Youth Ki Awaaz’. She had to suffer molestation for about 40 minutes under the sea. She writes: “Sometime during those rounds between the courts and the police stations, we were informed by one of the officers that this was the second such report against him in the last one-and-a-half month. On doing some research, we found that there were many such unreported cases against the same man for the same crime. It was appalling.”

Meanwhile, in a press release issued here, the district police said that if any person had suffered in such a case, they should immediately inform the police.

The police said that the woman, a native of Andhra Pradesh, initially approached the police in Murudeshwara on January 26 and filed a complaint. Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said that Rawat was out on bail. The trial was on in the court in Kundapur. The next hearing was on May 6. “We have opened a rowdy sheet against him in all the police stations of Udupi district. Both the accused and the firm are from Goa,” he said.

12 meters below sea level!

The victim recently recounted the horror of the underwater attack in a blog post. She wrote: “We were all told to give our instructors the ‘OK’ signal underwater every few minutes to let them know that we were alright. We descended underwater… and finally reached the sea bed. My instructor had my breathing equipment in his control and my oxygen tank in his hands. But as we swam across the corals… at the very bottom of the Arabian Sea, his hands were no longer on my diving equipment.”

“First one hand, then the other and finally both… I tried to shake his hands away from my body but in vain… I looked in his direction in despair but couldn’t see him. After all, he was right behind me with both his hands groping me… He then signalled asking me if I was okay. I signalled with an ‘OK’. 12 meters below sea level, with my breathing equipment under his control, I didn’t dare show any fear,” she wrote.

Describing the alleged ordeal, she said that after unsuccessfully trying to break out of his clutches “all I could do was signal him with an ‘OK’ because more than anything else, I wanted to get back to the boat and to my friends, safe and sound. For the next 40 minutes, he took complete advantage of my silence and my helplessness…”

She claims once back on the shore, she confronted the diver with what he had done and with the support of her friends made him confess. She also claims that she has a video of him confessing following which she lodged a police complaint.

The victim alleges in the blog that despite charges against him, Ravath continues to operate as a diving instructor by adopting a new identity. Byndoor police said that despite a ban, scuba diving was being conducted along the Karnataka coast.

Bengaluru, May 14: JD(S) leader HD Revanna has been released from Parappana Agrahara Jail today, on May 14 after he was granted conditional bail.

He was granted a conditional bail yesterday by a Bengaluru court in connection with a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegation against him and his son Prajwal.

Revanna was arrested on May 4 by Special Investigative Team (SIT) officials in a kidnapping case registered against him at KR Nagar police station in the city. The case is linked to his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna’s mega sex scam.

Representing the JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipura, he termed this case a "political conspiracy" against him.

A SIT, constituted by the Karnataka government, is probing the alleged sexual abuse against against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP, is seeking another term from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The voting for the seat took place on April 26.

Earlier, JD (S) chief HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Karnataka government does not want a fair inquiry.

"They are misusing the office. Nothing is going to happen ultimately. They wanted character assassination of HD Revanna and for that reason, they are using their office," Kumaraswamy told ANI.

Meeting Karnataka Governor Tawara Chanda Gehlot on May 9, a delegation of the Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a memorandum and urged Gehlot to recommend a CBI probe.

Prajwal sill absconding

The JD(S) MP, Prajwal, fled to Germany after Karnataka State Commission for Women Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking an investigation into over obscene videos of Prajwal Revanna allegedly sexually abusing several women. He has also skipped summons issued by the SIT to appear before it.

The ‘obscene videos’ involving Prajwal Revanna started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, triggering a political slugfest.

A lookout notice against Prajwal Revanna has been issued at all airports in India, along with a Blue Corner notice. A Blue Corner notice issued by Interpol helps countries collect and share information regarding a person's location and their activities as part of a criminal investigation.

Madikeri, May 11: Kodagu police have apprehended the man allegedly responsible for the brutal murder of a minor girl within the confines of Kumbaragadige village in Karnataka's Somwarpet taluk.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police, K Ramarajan, disclosed that the arrested individual is Prakash (32) from Hammiyala village in Somwarpet taluk. However, authorities are still in the process of recovering the severed head of the victim. The perpetrator had absconded with the victim's severed head after committing the crime.

Search operations for the suspect commenced late on Thursday night (May 9), with officials diligently pursuing leads. Acting on information suggesting the suspect's presence in a forested area near the village, the police swiftly moved in and apprehended him.

The victim US Meena, 15, a student of Surlabbi High School, had passed the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on May. One same day, she was murdered.

Reportedly, the engagement of the minor girl with the suspect was thwarted by officials from the Women and Child Development department. Subsequently, officials persuaded the girl's parents against proceeding with the marriage.

However, despite these interventions, the suspect forcibly entered her residence during the night, purportedly abducted her, and later perpetrated the heinous crime in a wooded area on the outskirts of the forest, before absconding with her severed head.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing into sexual abuse charges against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, will not be going abroad to bring him back, and the Interpol will share information about him.

He also cautioned political leaders about making public statements or sharing information in connection with the case, which is sensitive.

The 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna, who is grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, is facing charges of sexually abusing several women.

The scandal has raised a political storm with the ruling Congress and BJP-JD(S) engaged in a slugfest.

Prajwal Revanna is said to have flown abroad on April 27, a day after the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka was held.

He was BJP-JD(S) alliance's joint candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha segment, which went to polls in the first phase.

"No, there is no such option. Blue Corner Notice has been issued and the Interpol will share the information. The respective country in which he is found or identified - they will inform them (Interpol) and then our agencies, the CBI will get to know, and through them we will get to know."

"So far there is no information," Parameshwara said.

He was responding to a question on reports about the SIT team travelling abroad in connection with the case.

Speaking to reporters, he said, "Investigation is going on, not to affect the investigation we don't want to share any information."

Responding to a question on Union Minister Pralhad Joshi's statement alleging conspiracy behind the arrest of BJP leader Devaraje Gowda, for making allegations against Congress leaders in connection with the case, Parameshwara said, "If anyone says anything I cannot react to it. We cannot respond to every public statement. As this is a serious case, we cannot share information until the investigation is completed."

"My request to the public and to our leaders is to be cautious while making statements. If not, based on the statements given by them, we may have to call them for investigation and record their statement under 41 A of CrPC," he added.

Asked whether JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy will also be served notice, the Minister said he is a former CM and that he believes that the former has taken this case seriously.

"Before giving any statements on this case or before sharing any information in the public domain, one has to be cautious, and this applies to all," he added.
