Mangaluru, Mar 30: Within a few hours after a group of moral police allegedly manhandled a Class VIII student for being ‘too friendly’ with her female classmate belonging to another community, the police arrested eight Muslim youth at Mulky on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
They were produced in the II Additional District Sessions Court on Monday and remanded to judicial custody.
It is learnt that Dharwad based Manjunath (15), a student of CSI School in Mulky, was found consoling a Muslim girl on Saturday afternoon near his hostel. The girl was crying for unknown reason. A few local Muslim youth who noticed this threatened the boy and allegedly manhandled him.
According to a complaint lodged by the parents of Manjunath at Mulky Police Station, the boy was assaulted and pushed into an auto rickshaw and taken near a Darga, where 15 others beat him again. However, it is learnt that the boy has not suffered any serious injuries.
The police swung into action and arrested eight persons in connection with the case by Sunday morning.
