Mulur: New building of Markaz Tha-aleemul Ihsan inaugurated

Udupi, Aug 2: Former union minister and Rajya Sabha member K Rahman Khan on Saturday formally inaugurated the newly constructed school building of Markaz Tha-aleemul Ihsan (MTI) at Mulur in Udupi district.

Run by Dakshina Karnataka Sunni Centre (DKSC), an organisation of resident Kannadigas in United Arab Emirates, MTI is a prominent institution of religious cum secular education in the coastal district.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Khan said that value based education will build the future of an individual as well as strengthens the community.

Commending the service of DKSC and MTI in the field of education, Mr Khan said he would provide Rs 10 lakh for this institution from his MP fund.

Udupi district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, who inaugurated the third floor of the MTI, opined that the intuition has been a playing the role of the centre of harmony and unity as a large number of pupils from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts are studying here.

Health Minister U T Khader inaugurated the first aid centre of MTI and said that the future of the country lies in the hands of the students, who deserve value based education and training.

DKSC central committee president Assayad K S Atakoya Thangal presided over the ceremony and offered dua on the occasion.

DKSC working president Abdul Hameed Aramex inaugurated the event while Al Muzain group chief Zakariya Jokatte laid the foundation stone for new project.

UAE based Khushi Group CEO Mohammed Shareef inaugurated the audio-video room while Amaco group CEO Mohammed Asif inaugurated computer laboratory.

BM Farooq of Fiza Group unveiled the new logo of 20th anniversary DKSC. Oman’s DHS Group chief Shaikha Bava felicitated the meritorious students.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
