Muslim Law Board sacks Salman Nadvi who met Sri Sri and suggested shifting of Babri site

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has unanimously decided to expel Maulana Salman Husaini Nadwi following controversy over his stance on the Babri Masjid land dispute.

Salman Nadwi had met Sri Sri Ravishankar of the Art of Living last week to discuss an out-of-court settlement of the Ram temple issue in Ayodhya -- a solution suggested earlier by the Supreme Court. Sources in the Law Board -- which accepted his resignation today -- said they had not authorized such a meeting.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board made their decision public on their official twitter handle. A disciplinary committee was formed by the board to look into the matter. With the rift out in the open, the board had earlier hinted that Salman Nadwi would be removed from the board.

Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, AIMPLB member said, "The board reiterated its uncompromising stand on Babri Masjid issue. Once a masjid is built, it is always a masjid for the eternity. Nadwi is still speaking against the board stand. So the board was left with no other option but to dissuade from him. The committee has unanimously decided to remove him."

On Saturday and Sunday, in the general body meeting, the issue was again discussed where over 500 people participated and unanimous decision was made to remove Nadwi from the Board.

The process began on Friday when the working committee members informed the board in the meeting on Friday that Nadwi is publicly making statements over out of court settlement of Babri Masjid. Many members felt that action must be taken against him, since he is speaking against the Board outside and he was not authorized on behalf of the board.

In his presence, the resolutions of the board were read. After that Nadwi was asked to put forward his proposal and his point of view. According to the board, he was heard for more than half an hour. There were objections and interruptions during his speech by other members.

Speaking to the media, Zafaryab Jilani said, “The board tried to make him understand the stand of the board and he was requested not to speak against board on public platform. He said that he will not change his views. Unfortunately, he continued to give interviews and made inappropriate remarks against the board.”

Nadwi called decision of Board “dictatorial”. “The Board is acting in dictatorial way. I was only putting my view forward. What is wrong if I wish a decision which supports unity and harmony of country? After board’s view on Friday, I myself said I don’t want to be part of such board,” Nadwi said.

“I will continue my effort, and I will go to Ayodhya”, he added.

Miffed after Friday’s meeting, Nadwi too boycotted the plenary sessions, disassociating himself from the board. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar expressed surprise at the move on Twitter. Nadwi's expulsion came as a surprise as several members of the board have met me, he said.

Nadwi had come out in public with his stand on the issue after a meeting with the Art of Living founder which drew the ire of the AIMPLB. He had suggested shifting the site of the mosque to settle the dispute.

"Board says we will wait for the Court verdict. But in my opinion, today's scenario demands other solution as well. We must not fight and resolve the issue with hatred. We should work towards unity & harmony and a solution with consensus. I was expressing my views in the meeting, but it looked many members had come pre-planned to target me and create an issue," Nadwi said.

AlMPLB on Friday had claimed that there was no divide and the board unanimously agreed to its stand on the Babri Masjid dispute.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
