Mangaluru, Jun 11: Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has accused Congress-led Karnataka state government and its health and family welfare minister U T Khader of disrespecting Hindu deity and demanded an unconditional apology from him.
The hardcore Hindutva leader was in the city on Thursday for a hearing at Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) II court in connection with 2009 Mangaluru pub attack case. The court adjourned the proceedings to July 29.
Addressing a press conference after appearing before the court, he said that the state government must immediately withdraw the controversial poster brought out by the health department to create awareness about diseases.
The poster depicts Hindu deity Narasimha, the lion headed-god, eradicating Tuberculosis. The deity is seen holding medicines in his multiple hands, with names and messages engraved on them.
Mr Muthalik argued that the poster is a disrespectful representation of a Hindu deity and it violates the Article 295 of Indian constitution which prohibits the insult of gods of any religion. He held the health minister responsible for the “error”.
He went on to claim that Congress government in Karnataka has been repeatedly insulting Hindu gods for past two years. “Why does this government use the pictures of only Hindu gods for such advertisement? Let it use gods of other religions too,” he said.
Mr Muthalik said that the Karnataka government is testing the patience of Hindus by pursuing anti-Hindu policy. He also condemned the state cabinet’s recent decision to withdraw cases against dozens of PFI activists, who were booked during communal clashes in different parts of the state. He said that his outfit has filed a public interest litigation in High court questioning the withdrawal of cases.
